In the scope of this project, the initiation and evolution of cracks at the inner bending radius of upset formed joints is analyzed. Current invesigations include SEM analysis at different strain states to take a closer look at the cracks. The aim is to understand the fundamental mechanisms that lead to these cracks in order to correctly predict and increase the fatigue life cycle of the formed components.
